Sapper 892. 503rd Field Coy, Royal Engineers. Enlisted in Bath. Resident Clevedon. Previously with 2nd Wessex Field Coy, Royal Engineers. Died of Wounds on Friday, 14th May, 1915, aged 20. Son of J. and F.E. Smith of Walton-by-Clevedon, Somerset. Buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. V111.C.35. There is a brass memorial plaque commemorating this man in St Mary's Church. The plaque contains some further information. Frank Smith was a chorister and alter server prior to enlistment. He died in Boulogne Hospital of wounds received whilst carrying a message under heavy fire. Also on the Walton in Gordano Memorial. |

The Roll of Honour shows the name, the rank and the year of death for each man. Unusually it also includes a relief of each regimental badge. Within the church there are three private memorials, details of which are shown below. In the churchyard can be found the Commonwealth War Grave of E.J.N.Sawkins of the merchant vessel "Robert F Hand". Died 28th May 1943, aged 61.
