The Memorial Hall, Swavesey, Cambridgeshire
The 1st July 1916 casualties listed in the Memorial Hall at Swavesey prompted the odyssey that has taken me to hundreds of battlefields all over the world. At least once a year I return to where my quest started - the small village of Becourt where so many lads from the Cambridge Fens were mown down by the chattering machine guns at La Boisselle and in the trenches around the Heligoland Redoubt. The walk from Becourt Chateau through to Gordon Dump via Lochnager has become something of a pilgrimage for me.

Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Northern France, Africa, Italy, Greece, The Czeck Republic, etc. A recent visit to relatives in Ottawa enabled a couple of days in Quebec. Furthermore it was the anniversary of Wolfe's triumph on the Plain of Abraham. Here are the pictures from Quebec City. | This project originally derived from "The Swavesey Chronicles" a set of stories about Swavesey and The Great War. The material of interest to anyone looking to explore the impact of the Great War on a typical rural community. |
| Following the relocation of the Lloyds TSB's Head Office from Lombard Street to Gresham Street in the City of London, it became necessary to resite the old Lloyds Bank War Memorial. This is the story of how this project bacame a fascinating journey into the past. | Arthur Taylor, a veteran of the Crimean War. Bernard Taylor, Royal Marine from the Great War. Alfred Baker a veteran from the 1860 China Campaign. Plus post war photographs of V1 sites from Joan Curme. | This is a project designed to document Clevedon local War Memorials. In fact the word 'war memorial' is a bit of a misnomer since Clevedon, almost uniquely, has a 'peace memorial' as it's main focus of remembrance. |
